-May 10th-

“I’m gonna hand off the phone, could you repeat what you just told me?” I said as I handed the phone to J, who hot-potato’ed it straight to Rodger, saying “You’re better at this.” The bikes are delayed. Again. After another brief phone call we found that a different crate in the same container as our bikes had incomplete paperwork which had to be worked out before the container could make it’s way to Tilbury, east of London.

Our plan was to be there, oil and gasoline in hand, waiting for our iron horses. Instead of May 10th or 11th, the new arrival date is sometime next week. Foiled again.

New worries: Our Russian and Kazakstan visas may expire while we are still in the county. I don’t want to have a debate with a Russian Policeman who doesn’t speak English about why my visa expired a week before. We now need to find out if they can be pushed back. Our leisurely ride through Europe is looking more and more like a mad dash to the Russian border.

We never appreciated Wal-mart until we got here and found that almost every little item we need requires a small shop devised for such items. It’s disorienting that we can’t walk into a store and walk out with a new motorcycle battery, some dental floss and a cold beer.

J and I put the sunlight to good use with some catch.

Since we're cheap, we’re using our new found time to do free activities. Like walking. A lot. Yesterday we walked to the nearby town of Tally-Ho for some tools and food. The guy at Homebase (think Home Depot) gave Rodger the oddest look when he asked where he could find a torque wrench. Odd hand gestures and rough decriptions ensued but full dialogue was never achieved between the two.

It's strange to be in a town where my VW Golf would be considered larger than the average car. This one is a smart car. It says so on the back.

Today Rodger found a Bocce set in the garage and the three of us played a couple of games. J won them both.
