WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?

Rodger and I met in our thermodynamics class at Clemson University in South Carolina. The summer after our junior year in college, we completed a trip that had a huge impact on my life.  We traveled nearly 15,000 miles across North America on 21 year old motorcycles that we picked up for under a thousand dollars each.  While struggling to keep the bikes running....

Rodger Changes Tire in Alaska

....we managed to visit some of the most amazing places in the United States and Canada....

We rode the Pacific Coast Highway, bathed in glacier water in Alaska, stood above the Grand Canyon, and partied in Vegas.

And with the help of an all ramen noodle diet and a tent, we finished this 45 day journey spending less money than many people would spend on a weekend vacation.

After returning home, we promised each other that we would eventually take our bikes completely around the world.  We knew that we would have to do this before we got serious jobs…or worse yet, got married.  Three years later, Rodger has a real job as a mechanical engineer and I find myself in graduate school in bioengineering.  Knowing that I start medical school in August, it became apparent that it was now or never for this trip.  Rodger quit his job as he said he would, and I defend my thesis on April 5th.  We scraped up money for new (less used than our old bikes) motorcycles.  In April, we’re riding east until we get back to where we started.

We have been working on this website in our free time, and we will keep it updated with pictures and stories as we go.  What better way to come up with great stories than going around the world with no money?
